Kolkata/Lucknow. Once again sharp arrows of statements have started flying in the politics of West Bengal, which has raised the political temperature of the state to the seventh sky. On Saturday, West Bengal opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee strongly criticized the recent statements of Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in aggressive words. Ritabrata Banerjee has seriously accused Abhishek Banerjee of gross contradictions and adopting a wavering attitude in his statements. He said that Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC’s undeclared successor should immediately resign from his organizational posts before making such contradictory statements. Citing the recent election results, he also raised serious questions on the working style of the TMC leadership.

Taking on the lack of consistency in Abhishek Banerjee’s stand and his double standards, Ritabrata Banerjee said, “Abhishek Banerjee is saying one thing today, whereas yesterday he had said something else. Till yesterday he was saying that the ‘looters’ had fled TMC due to fear of central agencies (ED and CBI), and the very next day he is inviting the same rebel leaders to come back to the party. This is completely ridiculous and contradictory. If he has any morality, he should have resigned from his post on May 4 itself, taking full responsibility for the poor election results.

Support of 60 MLAs and warning of 2029 Lok Sabha elections

Ritabrata Banerjee, who has a very strong position in the current political equations and claims to have the huge support of 60 MLAs, gave a big warning to Abhishek for the future fight. He said, “Abhishek Banerjee is already dreaming of 2031 assembly elections, but he should remember that 2031 is still far away, before that the year 2029 will come. Then he will have to contest the Lok Sabha elections again and the people of Bengal have seen his reality very well. Before claiming a big victory next time, he should try to save his security deposit by contesting the elections himself.”

The opposition leader took a strong stance on the issue of demolition action on government properties or illegal constructions recently raised by Abhishek Banerjee. Ritabrata Banerjee said that if any leader or citizen has any legal complaint against the action of the administration, it should be resolved through the courts and not by coming to the streets. He said in clear words, “If any government authority is demolishing any of your property on the pretext that it is illegal, when in fact it is legal, then you have the option of law. You should directly approach the court and seek justice from there, and not politicize it.”

What was Abhishek Banerjee’s open offer to rebel leaders?

The root of this entire controversy is the statement of TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, in which he had openly challenged the party’s rebel MPs and MLAs. Abhishek Banerjee had said that if the rebel leaders who left the party only have any personal problem with him (Abhishek) and that is why they have rebelled, then they should forget all their grudges and return to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Abhishek had even claimed that if the rebel leaders returned to the party, they would resign from all their posts within an hour as a mark of respect to them.
