Weather Alert: Weather changed due to heavy rain in Delhi-NCR! IMD alert of heavy rain and storm in 17 states including UP, Bihar and Uttarakhand

Due to the effect of active Monsoon Trough and Western Disturbance across the country, the weather patterns have changed rapidly. In the national capital Delhi and many areas of NCR (Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad), dense dark clouds in the sky along with strong winds and intermittent heavy rains have given a big relief to the people from the humid heat. At the same time, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued ‘Orange’ and ‘Yellow’ alerts of heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in 17 states of North, Central, East and North-East India.

Weather changed in Delhi-NCR, temperature dropped by 4 to 5 degrees

After heavy rains that started in many parts of Delhi-NCR since Saturday morning, a significant drop in the maximum temperature has been recorded. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected to continue in Delhi’s Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road and Noida-Greater Noida with strong gusty winds at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour. Due to the rains, the city’s air quality (AQI) has also seen improvement and the weather remains pleasant.

Thunderstorm and storm alert in UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for many districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar due to the formation of strong cyclonic circulation in the Ganga plains:

• Uttar Pradesh: There is a threat of torrential rain and lightning in more than 30 districts of Purvanchal and Western UP, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Meerut and Moradabad.

• Bihar: Moderate to heavy rain with strong thunder is forecast in Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Purnia and Darbhanga. The administration has given strict instructions to farmers and people working in open fields not to take shelter under trees.

• Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh: Heavy rain and waterlogging may occur in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa and Gwalior divisions during the next 48 hours.

Danger of landslide in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, rivers in spate

The most severe effect of rain is being seen in the hilly states. An alert of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Tehri of Uttarakhand.

Due to incessant rains, many link roads and national highways have been disrupted due to landslides and debris on the hilly roads. The water level of Ganga, Alaknanda, Mandakini and Yamuna rivers has reached near the warning mark. Ban has been imposed on visiting the banks of rivers and drains in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi and Kangra of Himachal Pradesh.

Heavy rain warning for next 48 hours in these 17 states

According to the latest bulletin of IMD, due to the active monsoon, the alert will remain in effect in the following 17 states of the country:

Meteorological Department and Disaster Management appeal to the general public

The IMD and State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather, stay away from waterlogged low-lying areas and keep electronic devices safe. An appeal has been made to avoid standing under old dilapidated houses, hoardings and electric poles during storms.
