Once again active monsoon has started showing its fierce form in the plains of North and East India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal due to the new low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal and the northward shift of the monsoon trough line. According to the Meteorological Department, during the next 48 to 72 hours, there is every possibility of strong stormy winds at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour accompanied by loud thunder and lightning in many districts of these states.
Delhi-NCR: Temperature drops due to torrential rains and strong winds
In the capital Delhi and surrounding NCR areas (Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad), the sky will be covered with dense dark clouds and intermittent moderate to heavy rains will continue.

Wind Speed: Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 40 to 60 km per hour along with thunderstorms.

Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rain from Sonbhadra, Varanasi to Western UP
The monsoon system is fully active in both eastern and western divisions of Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain warning has been issued in districts like Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Banda and Jhansi. As a precautionary measure, holidays have also been declared in schools up to primary level in many sensitive districts. There are chances of thunderstorms in Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, where intermittent showers are expected till Thursday.
Bihar and Jharkhand: Yellow-orange alert of lightning (thunderstorm)
Warning of thunderstorm and heavy rain has been issued in about two dozen districts of Bihar including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnia, Darbhanga and Buxar.

Thunderstorm Warning: Meteorologists have given strict instructions to farmers and common citizens not to take shelter in open fields, trees or under electric poles.

Condition of Jharkhand: There is a possibility of heavy rain with winds at the speed of 40-50 km in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Deoghar.
West Bengal and Odisha: Vigilance on beaches, heavy rainfall in Ganga coastal areas
The direct impact of the weather system formed in the Bay of Bengal is being seen in the coastal and northern districts of West Bengal. Heavy rainfall with strong thunderstorm is forecast in Kolkata, Howrah, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Due to high waves in the sea, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea.
Danger of landslides in hilly states, IMD advisory for citizens
Due to heavy rains in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, rivers and streams are in spate and there is a risk of landslides on many national highways. The weather department has advised to avoid non-essential travel on sensitive hilly roads, avoid driving on waterlogged roads and use the official ‘Damini’ and ‘Mausam’ apps for latest weather information.
