As the process of 8th Central Pay Commission (8th Central Pay Commission) is being expedited for central employees and officers, the assessment of possible salary increase at different levels of the pay matrix has started. Level 18, the topmost level of the pay matrix, which is reserved for officers holding the highest administrative post in the central government, i.e. Cabinet Secretary and the chiefs of the three services, will see the biggest monetary jump in salaries.

In the 7th Pay Commission, the fixed basic pay for Level-18 was fixed at ₹2,50,000 per month. Now, based on the proposed and most likely Baseline Fitment Factor of 2.57x under the 8th Pay Commission, the new basic pay is expected to increase directly to ₹ 6,42,500 per month. After this basic pay revision, there will be a net monthly increase of approximately ₹1,49,000 to ₹1,50,000 per month in the gross salary including Dearness Allowance (despite DA being reset to zero), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance (TA).

The most important change with the implementation of Pay Commission is in the restructuring of allowances and basic pay:

• Current Status in 7th Pay Commission: Basic pay at Level-18 is ₹2,50,000. The demand for higher fitment factor up to 2.86x and 3.00x on behalf of employee organizations (NC-JCM) has also been placed before the Commission:
