The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has issued a new and very strict advisory regarding admission for the academic session 2026-27. Under this new order, it has been made clear that now admission will not be given in any college or university without National Common Entrance Test (NCET 2026) merit, directly or through any other means.

Recognition will be canceled if rules are ignored: NCTE’s tough stance

In its latest guidelines, NCTE has warned the education boards of all the states, central and state universities and affiliated colleges to completely follow the merit and prescribed rules. If any institute gives admission to ITEP course through backdoor or on donation basis by bypassing the scorecard and counseling process of NCET 2026 conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), then the registration of that student will not only be invalid, but the affiliation of that college will also be canceled with immediate effect. This step of the government has been taken to make the quality of teacher recruitment and training completely transparent.

What is the 4-year ITEP course and why is it important?

ITEP is a flagship program launched under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). This course gives combined degree of BA-B.Ed, B.Sc-B.Ed and B.Com-B.Ed directly after Intermediate (12th), which saves one year for the students. According to the new rules of the Central Government, in the coming time, this 4-year integrated B.Ed course is being made a mandatory qualification to become a permanent teacher in schools. This is the reason why to maintain transparency in this course, a strict decision has been taken to shortlist only National Common Entrance Test passed candidates.

Candidates seeking admission should participate in the counseling process only by visiting the official portal of National Testing Agency and respective recognized universities. Do not take the risk of direct admission by falling prey to any private institute or consultant, because the counseling data will be directly matched with the official exam results of NTA. Eligible candidates should choose their college options on the basis of their rank so that there is no legal threat to their degree in future.
