Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri holds crucial meeting with Chinese Vice Minister in Beijing, stresses on peace on the border

In this series, the country’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Beijing on Monday, where he held a high-level meeting with China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying. During this important meeting, both the countries expressed mutual consent and fully accepted the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the border areas at all costs. During his important visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met not only Vice Minister Hua Chunying but also other senior Chinese officials. Earlier in the day, he also had a long discussion with Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The main objective of this meeting was to better implement the guidelines given by the top leaders of both the countries regarding bilateral relations on the ground. Additionally, the Foreign Secretary also met Hong Liang, Vice-Secretary-General of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, where emphasis was placed on enhancing dialogue at the political level and expeditiously resolving outstanding issues that are mutual priorities.

Brainstorming on increasing trade, culture and mutual connection

During this round of diplomatic talks, ways to strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries, promote cultural exchange and deepen mutual ties between the citizens of the two countries were also discussed in detail. Experts believe that this meeting of high officials of India and China can prove to be a big and positive step towards restoring trust between the two countries amidst the cold relations for some time. It has also been agreed to increase exchanges at the academic and think-tank level, which is expected to help in reducing border tensions in the coming days.
