Following the sudden change in the movement of monsoon across the country, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has today issued a detailed and strict weather warning for September 7. Due to the combination of Cyclonic Circulation over North-West Madhya Pradesh and adjacent South-West Uttar Pradesh and intense moist winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, weather activities have become intense in more than twenty states of the country. According to meteorologists, there is a serious possibility of thunderstorm with speed of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour and lightning in the northern, central, eastern and north-eastern parts of the country during the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
This warning is especially important for travelers leaving home for office or on long journeys on the first working day of the week. Traffic is likely to be severely affected due to waterlogging on major highways, link roads and urban areas in North and Central India. At the same time, a new low pressure system is going to be active from North Odisha and Jharkhand to West Bengal, due to which the area of rain will spread continuously in the eastern and coastal areas for the next few days.
There has been movement of clouds in the sky since this morning in the national capital Delhi and its adjacent Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. According to the forecast of the weather center, there is a possibility of moderate rainfall in Delhi today along with strong thunderstorms and gusty winds at the speed of 40 to 50 km per hour. Today in the capital, the maximum temperature can be recorded around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature can be recorded around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius.
After the recent rains, waterlogging was seen in many areas of Delhi-NCR like Geeta Colony, Akbar Road and lower parts of Gurugram. In view of possible rain today, Delhi Municipal Corporation and disaster management teams have been instructed to keep water pumps active in low-lying areas. Due to the humidity level in the air remaining above 80 to 90 percent, once the rain stops, people may have to face the sticky humidity that makes them sweat.
Monsoon seems to be active with full force in Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in dozens of districts of Western and Eastern UP. Heavy rain with loud thunder is expected in districts like the capital Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Meerut, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Pilibhit, Badaun, Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur and Sonbhadra. The day temperature in Lucknow is expected to be around 30 to 31 degrees Celsius.
The situation remains more or less similar in the neighboring state of Bihar. Yellow and orange alert of thunderstorm and lightning has been issued in Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Bhojpur, Siwan, Saran, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jehanabad, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia, Katihar and Kishanganj. Farmers have been advised to avoid going to open fields, as incidents of loss of life due to lightning have been reported in the last few days.
The nature of nature in the hilly states remains very sensitive and risky. There has been a warning of heavy rain and strong winds at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Nainital, Rishikesh, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri, Rudraprayag and Almora districts of Uttarakhand. The maximum temperature in Dehradun is expected to be around 28 degrees and minimum 22 degrees Celsius. Due to heavy rainfall on the slopes of the mountains, incidents of sudden boulder fall and landslides can occur.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of heavy rain today and tomorrow in Mandi, Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, Una, Kinnaur, Solan, Bilaspur and Hamirpur of Himachal Pradesh. Whereas in Poonch, Anantnag, Kupwara, Jammu, Reasi and Kishtwar of Jammu and Kashmir, rivers may swell with heavy rains. The local administration has appealed to Chardham pilgrims, tourists and local citizens living around the river valleys to postpone unnecessary hill trips till the weather becomes normal.
The direct impact of monsoon cyclone is being seen in Madhya Pradesh. There is a possibility of torrential rain and strong thunderstorm in Katni, Vidisha, Sehore, Damoh, Narmadapuram (Hoshangabad), Khargone, Khandwa, Betul, Narsinghpur, Indore, Sagar, Chhindwara, Seoni and Sidhi districts of Western and Eastern Madhya Pradesh. The maximum temperature in the capital Bhopal will be around 28 degrees.
There is heavy cloud cover in the eastern and southern divisions of Rajasthan. There is a possibility of thunderstorm with speed up to 50 km per hour and torrential rain in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Karauli, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Jhunjhunu, Baran, Bundi, Dausa, Bhilwara, Alwar, Udaipur and Sriganganagar. Due to strong winds, trees and weak unpaved structures may get damaged at many places.
Due to the activity of monsoon clouds in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, light to moderate rains will continue at almost all places and heavy rains in some parts. Due to the rise in the water level of Brahmaputra and its tributaries, there is a danger of water logging in the low-lying plains.
Talking about South India, stormy winds and lightning are expected in coastal areas of coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The sea will be rough in the Gulf of Mannar, Comorin and the sea areas adjacent to the Bay of Bengal, due to which the Meteorological Department has given strict instructions to fishermen not to venture into the deep sea.
In view of the alert of heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning, disaster management agencies have issued some important precautions for citizens:
During storms and lightning, never take shelter under any tree, old dilapidated house, tin shed or electric poles and transformers. Disconnect the plugs of electronic appliances like TV, refrigerator and computer inside the house from the power board.
If you are driving on the road and suddenly a strong storm or torrential rain starts, stop the vehicle at a safe open place. Do not take the risk of driving through waterlogged underpasses and culverts. Drivers plying on hilly roads should proceed only after checking the latest condition of the roads from the disaster control room of the district administration.
