Tata Motors is readying an all-new, next-generation iteration of its bestselling sub-compact SUV, the Tata Nexon. Internally codenamed Project Garud, the upcoming model marks the nameplate’s first comprehensive ground-up redesign since its debut in 2017, moving past the previous cosmetic and mid-cycle facelifts seen in 2020 and 2023.
Expected Launch Timeline in 2027
Development mules for the new Nexon have begun road-testing across India. Industry trackers and supply-chain reports point to an official market launch around mid-2027. The rollout is scheduled alongside Tata’s broader 2027 product portfolio, which also includes the production versions of the premium Avinya electric crossover lineup.
Transition to the Modular ATLAS Architecture
The centerpiece of the 2027 Nexon overhaul is a complete shift away from the legacy X1 platform to Tata’s newly developed ATLAS (Adaptive Tech-Forward Large Architecture for SUVs) framework. This modular platform improves structural rigidity, crash test safety ratings, and dynamic handling while enabling:

The front fascia will build upon Tata’s current split-headlamp philosophy with sharper daytime running lights (DRLs) and a more upright hood line.
Powertrain Choices & Market Competition
The next-gen SUV will continue offering multi-powertrain versatility, including the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, alongside dual-cylinder iCNG configurations and a dedicated EV variant. Expected to be priced between ₹8 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2027 Nexon will renew its rivalry against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq.
