A big step has been taken towards making women self-reliant and empowered in the State Road Transport Corporation. A special recruitment campaign has been started for the appointment of women conductors in roadways buses running on various regional depots and routes across the state. Now women will be seen taking command of government buses, from ticket booking to ensuring the safety and smooth travel of passengers.

The main objective of this recruitment is to increase the participation of women in transport services and to provide safe and comfortable travel experience to women passengers. These recruitments are being made by the Transport Corporation on contractual basis, in which, under a transparent process, selection will be done directly on the basis of merit and employment portal rules without any written examination or interview. Eligible girls from both rural and urban areas can take advantage of this opportunity to join the government system.

Under this scheme of the Transport Corporation, women conductors will be deployed in the depots of major divisions and districts of the state. These include big regions like Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, Moradabad, Saharanpur and Ayodhya.

By being posted at local depot, women candidates will get the facility to perform duty in their home district or surrounding areas only. Roster based duty of women conductors will be imposed in long distance intercity buses as well as in ordinary and general buses of local and rural routes. Apart from this, keeping in view the safety of women passengers, only women staff are being given responsibility on priority basis in special pink buses.

Women candidates applying for the post of Operator in Roadways must have the necessary educational and technical qualifications:

• Educational qualification: It is mandatory for the candidate to have passed minimum 12th (Intermediate) class from any recognized State or Central Education Board.

• Computer Aptitude: It is mandatory to have ‘CCC’ (Course on Computer Concepts) certificate issued by National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT / DOEACC). Without CCC certificate the application will not be valid.

• Special preference (extra points): Candidates who have obtained state award in NCC (NCC ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate), Bharat Scouts and Guides or medal winners in any recognized sports competition will be given preference (weightage) in the selection merit as per rules.

• Age Limit: The minimum age for application has been fixed at 18 years and maximum age at 40 years. Female candidates belonging to reserved categories (Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes) will be given relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit as per the rules of the state government.

The process of recruitment to operator posts in the Transport Corporation has been kept completely transparent and free from middlemen:

• Merit Based Selection: No written examination or personal interview will be taken in this recruitment. Candidates will be selected from the merit list prepared on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in class 12th and weightage given under the rules.

• Document Verification: Women candidates shortlisted on the employment portal will be called for verification of their original documents at the concerned Regional Manager (RM) office.

• initial training: After selection, all newly appointed women conductors will be given special training in operating electronic ticketing machines (ETM), communicating with passengers, cash management and emergency safety measures.

Contract operators are given remuneration and incentives as per the standards of the State Road Transport Corporation:

• Kilometer based payment: Operators are paid a fixed rate (approximately ₹1.89 to ₹2.10 per km) depending on the bus kilometer operated.

• Monthly Fix Incentive: If a woman operator completes a minimum duty of 22 days in a month and operates to the prescribed standard (approximately 5,000 kilometres), she is provided with an additional performance incentive allowance of up to ₹3,000.

• Average monthly income: As per the rules, by doing regular work, women conductors can easily get an honorarium of around ₹ 16,000 to ₹ 22,000 per month.

• other benefits: While on duty, facilities like EPF deduction, accident insurance cover, free travel pass and maternity leave are also payable as per rules.

Applications for this recruitment are being accepted in completely online mode through the State Employment Sangam/Sewayojan Portal (sewayojan.up.nic.in):

• Registration on the portal: First of all, go to the employment portal and register yourself as a ‘Job Seeker’.

• Complete Profile: Complete the profile 100% by uploading your personal information, educational details (10th, 12th), CCC Computer Certificate roll number and issue date, caste certificate and photo.

• search Jobs: Click on ‘Outsourcing/Contract Jobs’ option in the dashboard of the portal. Search there by selecting the name of the post ‘Conductor’ or department ‘Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation’.

• Submit Application: Click on the ‘Apply’ button given against the vacancies of the concerned district or region. After successful application, take a print out of the Acknowledgment Slip and keep it safe.

To avoid any inconvenience at the time of document verification, candidates should keep ready original and self-attested copies of all the below mentioned certificates:

• Original mark sheets and certificates of high school (10th) and intermediate (12th)

• Original CCC Computer Certificate issued by NIELIT

• Aadhar Card and Residence Certificate

• Caste certificate (for reserved category female candidates)

• NCC, NSS or Scout-Guide certificate (if applicable)

• Details of registered profile and application slip on employment portal

• 4 Latest passport size photograph and copy of bank account passbook
