• Morning time: For morning puja, the time between 05:00 am to 07:00 am is considered best to light the lamp.

• Choice of Metal: For worship, you can choose an earthen lamp or a metal lamp (like brass, copper or silver).

• Cleaning the lamp: Clean the lamp thoroughly before lighting it. If you are using an earthen lamp, then first soak it in water for some time and then use it only after drying it.

• Oil or Ghee: For morning and evening lighting, one should always use pure cow’s ghee, mustard oil or sesame oil. Use the wick in the lamp only after soaking it thoroughly in oil or ghee.

• Broken lamp prohibited: Before lighting the lamp, check carefully that it is not broken, cracked or dirty anywhere. According to the scriptures, lighting a broken or impure lamp increases poverty and mental stress in the house.
