Jharkhand Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a serious warning regarding heavy rains and storms in various parts of the state today, which can have a deep impact on life. A total of 11 districts of the state, including the capital Ranchi and Hazaribagh, have been advised to be extremely cautious today. Due to the activity of monsoon and low pressure area, the weather trend is going to be quite aggressive for the next 24 to 48 hours across the state. Meteorologists say that on one hand, this rain accompanied by the movement of dark clouds in the sky and cold winds will provide relief from the heat, while on the other hand it will also increase the risk of storm and lightning. The local administration has also appealed to the common citizens to avoid living under trees or around electric poles and take shelter in safe places only. According to the latest bulletin of the Meteorological Department, maximum vigilance is required in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and Koderma districts.
Orange alert in 6 districts and yellow alert in 5 districts, be careful
According to the latest forecasts released by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the state has been divided into two main categories. The situation is likely to be more serious in the districts under orange alert, where there is a strong possibility of torrential rains and lightning along with strong winds. In these 6 districts, the administration has been instructed to be fully prepared so that immediate relief work can be done in case of any kind of disaster. On the other hand, yellow alert has been issued for the remaining 5 districts, which means that there will be moderate rain and strong winds, but the situation is expected to be slightly normal compared to the districts with orange alert. However, yellow alert does not mean that people should be careless, because there is every possibility of sudden change in weather. Local residents have been suggested to check the latest weather information before going out.
Important guidelines for protection from storm and lightning
In Jharkhand, incidents of lightning often prove to be very tragic and fatal during monsoon, hence the State Disaster Management Department has issued strict guidelines for prevention. Whenever there is lightning in the sky or strong winds are blowing, farmers working in the fields should immediately go inside a permanent house or safe shelter. Avoid working in open fields, as this is the most risky. Also, when inside the house, unplug electrical appliances and stay away from windows and doors. Avoid going to waterlogged areas, as there is a danger of potholes or bare electrical wires under the roads. There is also a possibility of the traffic system being affected in congested cities like Ranchi and Hazaribagh, hence drivers have also been advised to slow down the speed of their vehicles and drive carefully during the rains.
Monsoon mood and challenge for farmers
Most of Jharkhand’s economy and agriculture-based activities depend on rain, and while this rain can prove to be a boon for Kharif crops, excessive waterlogging can also harm the crops. Farmers of the state have been advised to make proper drainage arrangements to protect their crops. A huge drop in temperature has also been recorded, which has brought relief to the people to a great extent, but caution against diseases is equally important. The administration has also asked people living near rivers and streams to remain alert, because sudden increase in water flow from hilly areas can lead to rise in water level.
