8 Devotees Killed, Over 20 Injured in Tragic Baghpat Expressway Crash as Speeding Canter Hits Vehicle

A pilgrimage turned into a major tragedy in western Uttar Pradesh when a high-speed collision on an expressway stretch in Baghpat district claimed the lives of eight devotees and left more than 20 others severely injured. The catastrophic accident occurred in the early hours when a speeding canter truck rammed into a passenger vehicle carrying devotees returning from a religious shrine.

Rapid Emergency Response and Hospitalization Highway patrol teams, emergency medical response squads, and local villagers quickly rushed to the site after hearing the impact. Rescue personnel worked through the twisted metal to extricate trapped victims. The injured passengers were rushed to the district hospital in Baghpat and nearby community health centres. Several critically wounded individuals have since been referred to higher medical trauma facilities in Meerut and Delhi for intensive care.

Administrative Probe and Safety Concerns District administration officials and senior police officers arrived at the spot to supervise rescue operations and clear the highway for normal traffic movement. Police have initiated a formal inquiry to determine whether the truck driver was speeding, fell asleep behind the wheel, or experienced mechanical failure. A formal FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as authorities work to establish the sequence of events.
