Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar has launched a fierce counterattack against Opposition leaders over their resistance to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Drawing a direct parallel between the ongoing political friction over personal laws and the contentious debate that surrounded the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the NDA ally accused leaders like Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi of manufacturing fear to serve narrow electoral interests.
Drawing Direct Parallels with the CAA Protests
Addressing media queries in Lucknow, Rajbhar pointed out that Opposition parties had aggressively rallied against the CAA by claiming that minority communities would lose their basic civil protections. Emphasizing that several years have passed since the citizenship framework took practical effect without disenfranchising domestic citizens, Rajbhar demanded accountability from the Opposition. “Now someone should ask Owaisi how many Muslims were thrown out of the country by the CAA? Akhileshji and Rahulji should also be questioned,” Rajbhar asserted, alleging that resistance to the UCC relies on an identical playbook of unfounded panic.
Responding to Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘Communal Conspiracy’ Charge
Rajbhar’s remarks follow sharp criticisms from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who argued on social media that the acronym UCC actually stands for an “Underground Communal Conspiracy” orchestrated by the ruling dispensation. Yadav maintained that the government should fulfill core economic commitments—including employment creation, women’s safety, and welfare guarantees—before pushing for sweeping personal law overhauls. Rejecting the critique, Rajbhar argued that a standardized civil framework guarantees equal constitutional rights across communities and helps dismantle discriminatory practices regarding marriage, divorce, and inheritance.
Renewed UCC Momentum Across NDA-Ruled States
The political exchange marks a fresh escalation in the national UCC discourse following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s affirmation that NDA-governed states will systematically introduce uniform civil legislation ahead of the 2029 general elections. With Uttarakhand having already enacted its model UCC legislation and other states preparing draft bills, ruling coalition partners like SBSP are aggressively taking to the field in Uttar Pradesh to neutralize Opposition campaign narratives ahead of upcoming assembly and municipal cycles.
