Indian Railways has prepared a very modern and hi-tech system to curb this ‘habit’ of yours. Now, as soon as any passenger tries to get out of the coach by stealing railway property, a hooter (loud alarm) will immediately sound at the station and the RPF will catch him red handed.

Railways lose crores of rupees every year, sheets and towels are going missing

According to a government data, in the last 3 financial years, Railways has suffered a huge loss of about Rs 4000 crore due to theft and other reasons. Talking about bedrolls alone, the Railways supplies about 14 to 15 crore bedrolls to passengers every year, out of which 10 to 12 lakh bedsheets and towels go missing. Due to this, Railways faces a loss of Rs 50 to 60 crore annually. According to the previous data of Western Railway, passengers did not leave behind lakhs of bed sheets and towels as well as toilet mugs, taps and flush pipes.

How will this magical RFID technology work?

To stop this theft, Railway Board is now going to completely digitalize its bedroll management. Now every blanket, pillow and sheet in the train has a very fine RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Chip will be installed. The cost of installing this chip will be only Rs 20 to 50 per cloth. Along with this, invisible (hidden) sensors will be installed at the exit gates and stations of trains.

This is how a thief will be caught: As soon as a passenger tries to get off the train by hiding the bedroll in his personal bag, the sensors installed at the gate will detect that chip. Immediately a loud hooter will sound and the plainclothes railway police stationed there will take the thief into custody.

You will get relief from dirty blankets also, starting from Mumbai

With this new technology ‘two birds with one stone’ will be achieved. Along with stopping theft, there will also be digital monitoring of blankets, due to which passengers will get rid of dirty and smelly blankets forever. The Central and Western Division of Mumbai has prepared its complete blueprint for premium trains like Rajdhani and August Kranti Express, which will soon be implemented across the country.
