‘Tandav’ of monsoon in UP: Heavy to very heavy rain in 25+ districts in next 48 hours, IMD issues red-orange alert

Monsoon has once again taken a severe form in the national capital Delhi and entire North India as well as in Uttar Pradesh. Along with relief, there has also been news of distress for the people of Uttar Pradesh who are struggling with the scorching heat. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a new and strong monsoon system has become active in the state. Due to this, the Lucknow-based Zonal Meteorological Center has issued a serious warning of torrential rain, strong storm, thunder and lightning in the entire Uttar Pradesh till July 30.

Temperature will drop up to 6°C, relief from humidity

Meteorologists estimate that due to continuous rains and accumulation of clouds, there will be a significant drop of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature in most parts of Uttar Pradesh. This will provide direct relief to people from the sticky humidity and heat that has been troubling them for a long time. While on Monday there was heavy rain in most parts of Eastern UP and many parts of Western UP, on Tuesday and Wednesday these monsoon activities may become more severe in the entire state.

Heavy rain started from Monday

On Monday, the Meteorological Department had issued a warning of heavy rain in more than two dozen districts of the state. These mainly include Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Barabanki, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal and Badaun.

Alert of ‘very heavy rain’ in these districts on Tuesday

According to IMD, the main center of monsoon rain on Tuesday is going to be western and central UP. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings in Sonbhadra, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur and Bareilly. ‘Heavy to very heavy rain’ (Heavy to Very Heavy Rain) Orange/Red alert has been issued.

Apart from this, there is every possibility of heavy rains with strong winds in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shamli, Meerut, Amroha, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Badaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba and Jhansi districts.

Meteorological Department’s appeal to citizens: Be alert

In view of the looming threat of storm, torrential rain and lightning, the Meteorological Department and the local administration have appealed to the general public to remain alert:

• stay safe: Avoid standing in the open, taking shelter under trees or stopping near electric poles during heavy rain and lightning.

• Waterlogging warning: People living in low-lying areas may have to face problems like waterlogging and traffic jams, so avoid leaving the house without any emergency work.
