This time, a situation of huge confusion is being seen among the devotees and astrologers across the country regarding Ekadashi, which is called the king of fasts in Hindu Sanatan Dharma. Devotees are confused about the exact date of ‘Yogini Ekadashi’ (Yogini Ekadashi 2026) of Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month whether the fast was on 10th July or can it be observed today i.e. 11th July also. Due to calendar calculations and religious rules of sunrise, this time the dates of fasting have become different for the followers of both Smartha and Vaishnava traditions. This is the main reason why two contradictory information regarding Vrat and Parana are emerging on various Hindu almanacs and social media platforms.
Today is Paran day for Smartha followers: Auspicious time has started from 5:21 am.
As per religious rules and calendar, devotees following Smarta tradition (devotees leading a household life) have completed the fast of Yogini Ekadashi on 10th July itself. In such a situation, it is mandatory for all the devotees observing fast on 10th July to perform Parana today i.e. on Saturday, 11th July 2026 within Dwadashi tithi. According to astrological calculations, the best and auspicious time to perform Parana today has been determined from 05:21 am to 09:59 am. Additionally, in some local almanacs, the time from 01:24 pm to 04:09 pm after the end of Hari Vasara is also said to be suitable for Paran. According to beliefs, the complete spiritual fruit of the fast is achieved only by completing Parana within the stipulated time limit.

On the contrary, devotees belonging to the Vaishnava tradition (saints, ascetics and ardent devotees of Lord Vishnu) are observing the fast of Yogini Ekadashi with full devotion today i.e. on 11th July. Due to giving priority to Ekadashi having rising date and Dwadashi, today’s day has been accepted as the main Ekadashi in Vaishnavism. For this reason, today special worship, Mangala Aarti, continuous bhajan-kirtan and chanting of Vishnu mantras are being done in the major Vaishnav Peethas and Shri Hari Vishnu temples of the country. These devotees, who observe fast according to Vaishnav method, will remain absorbed in the devotion of Lord Narayana with fruits and water-free resolution throughout the day.
Parana time of 12th July for Vaishnav fasting people: Know when the fast will end
For the Vaishnav devotees who observe the Maha-Vrat of Yogini Ekadashi on 11th July, the classical arrangement has been given to perform Parana on the next day i.e. Sunday, 12th July 2026. According to the Panchang, the most auspicious time for Parana on 12th July will be from 05:22 am to 08:09 am. There is a clear instruction in the scriptures that Ekadashi fast should always be broken on Dwadashi tithi and only after the time of Harivasar has passed. If due to some unavoidable reason or due to travel etc. a devotee is not able to perform Parana in this stipulated time, then he should take the decision as per the tradition of his Vice-Chancellor, Astrologer or family ethos.

The importance of Yogini Ekadashi has been described in great detail in mythological and religious texts. This Ekadashi is considered to be the best day to receive the blessings of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. On this auspicious occasion, by collectively reciting Vishnu Sahasranamam, offering Tulsi Dal and donating food and clothing to the needy and Brahmins, the person gets freedom from the biggest sins committed unknowingly. It is believed that due to the effect of this fast, poverty in a person’s life is removed and the path to mental peace, family happiness and financial prosperity is paved. This year, devotees should complete their sadhana only after understanding this subtle difference between Smartha and Vaishnav calculations.
