Delhi’s Dwarka will become the biggest business hub of the capital, LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu drew a master plan with strict industrial reforms and new infrastructure.

Dwarka Sub-City of Delhi is all set to become the biggest business and commercial hotspot of the country’s capital in the coming times. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has chaired a high-level interactive meeting with top industry leaders and representatives to strengthen Dwarka as a major economic and commercial hub. During this strategic meeting, the Lieutenant Governor made it clear that to maintain the long-term economic growth of Delhi, it is very important to immediately implement urban redevelopment, infrastructure upgradation and major planning reforms. He has advocated for a clean, pollution free and labor centric industrial ecosystem in Dwarka, thereby creating new employment opportunities on a large scale for the local youth.

Proximity to the international airport and excellent connectivity will become the biggest strength.

The Lieutenant Governor said that being one of the largest planned sub-cities in Asia, Dwarka is perfectly positioned to emerge as a top destination for global investment. Its biggest strength is its close proximity and excellent connectivity to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport). Dwarka’s transport system and metro network is already quite strong. LG clarified that Dwarka is now fully developed, due to which the sub-city is ready to attract huge investments in different mega sectors like commerce, hospitality, healthcare, real estate and advanced technology.

Focus will be on pollution free industries, FAR norms will be reviewed

LG Sandhu laid special emphasis on the fact that the industrial development of Dwarka should be completely eco-friendly, sustainable and non-polluting. There will be no space given to such industries which compromise the environmental quality and air of this sub-city in any way.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice Chairman of DDA, senior officials of Delhi Government and Managing Director of ITPO along with leading industrialists from real estate, infrastructure and hospitality sectors. The Lieutenant Governor said that planning and development norms including Floor Area Ratio (FAR) will be reviewed in line with the changing urban needs. Industrialists made important suggestions to create a well-organized single-window clearance mechanism and easy government approvals to create an investment-friendly environment in Delhi. Apart from this, emphasis was laid on promoting IT, ITES and knowledge-based industries as well as taking full advantage of international convention centers like Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam.

TOD policy and new 5-star hotels will change the picture

To speed up this historic development of Dwarka, various government departments have shared information about their preparations. DDA Vice Chairman said that availability of land for future mega projects has been ensured. Under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy formulated under the guidance of the Lieutenant Governor, the TOD Committee is facilitating single-point and time-bound approval for all eligible projects.

Along with this, Additional Chief Secretary (Industry) of Delhi Government assured that a new industrial policy is being prepared to improve the ease of doing business in Delhi. The Tourism Secretary of the Delhi Government said that new urban destinations are being developed to promote Delhi’s evening economy, while the Managing Director of ITPO has talked about considering the development of new five-star hotel infrastructure around Dwarka to strengthen the hospitality ecosystem of Delhi.

Steps towards ‘Developed Delhi’ as per PM Modi’s vision

Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ease of Doing Business’, the Lieutenant Governor finally reiterated that the entire Delhi administration is completely focused on promoting a transparent, efficient and investor-friendly ecosystem. Officials believe that this new Dwarka plan of DDA will not only accelerate sustainable development, but will also provide jobs to the local people on a large scale and will further strengthen the journey of becoming ‘Developed Delhi’.
