A completely new sub-variant of Corona ‘Omicron RF.5’ has been found responsible for the sudden increase in Covid patients in Cuddapah district of the state. This variant, which emerged due to genetic mutation, was confirmed when samples of four suspected patients taken from Cuddapah district were sent to the country’s prestigious lab ‘National Institute of Virology’ (NIV Pune) located in Pune for testing. The intensive genome sequencing done there has officially revealed the presence of the Omicron RF.5 variant. As soon as this new report comes out, there has been a stir in the medical world.

How deadly is Omicron RF.5: Medical Director gave relief information

From time to time, different forms (sub-variants) of the Omicron variant of Corona have been emerging all over the world. Medical Education Director of Andhra Pradesh Vishnuvardhan has issued an important statement regarding the lethality of this new virus. He said that this sub-variant was being closely monitored during the regular surveillance of SARC-CoV-2 and the World Health Organization (WHO) is also monitoring it at the global level. Before this, this variant has also spread rapidly in Singapore and many other countries of South-East Asia. It is a matter of relief that according to all the scientific tests and research conducted so far, this RF.5 variant is not at all more dangerous than the initial or other variants of Omicron. Therefore, there is no need for the general public to panic in any way.

How did this new mutation form: Health department put hospitals on high alert

According to the technical information shared by the Health Department of Andhra Pradesh, this new form of Omicron is completely naturally mutated. It was originally developed from the LF.7 and PY 1.1.1.1 branches of the JN.1 variants. Experts have warned that even though this virus is not fatal for normal people, it can prove dangerous for those who are already suffering from a serious chronic disease (such as diabetes, heart or kidney problem) because it weakens the body’s immunity. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Andhra Pradesh Health Minister has given strict instructions to all government and private hospitals in the state to remain on high alert and ensure availability of all essential life-saving medicines and beds.

According to the guidelines of the Health Ministry, the symptoms of the Omicron RF.5 sub-variant are also very similar to the older variants of Corona. If a person is complaining of persistent sore throat, high fever, headache, runny nose, extreme weakness or pain in the entire body and muscles, then he should not take these symptoms lightly. The Health Department has advised that if such symptoms are seen, the patient should immediately go to the nearest health center and get the Covid-19 rapid or RT-PCR test done and keep himself in home isolation till the report comes so that the infection can be prevented from spreading. According to official data, the total number of active corona patients in Andhra Pradesh was recorded at 16 on Saturday, on whom doctors are continuously monitoring.
