Monsoon is now in full swing across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain in large parts of the country between July 5 and July 10. The northern limit of Monsoon is now covering the areas of Punjab and Haryana, due to which the weather pattern is going to change completely from the plains of North India to the hill states in the next 4 days. At some places there is a possibility of heavy rain along with thunderstorms, while at some places there is a danger of lightning.

North India: What is the condition of Delhi, UP, Punjab and Haryana?

The scope of rain is going to increase in the next few days in the capital Delhi and NCR region. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab between July 6 and 8. At the same time, monsoon activities in Uttar Pradesh will gain momentum from July 7 and till July 10, heavy rains will be seen in most parts of the state. During this period, the local administration has been advised to remain alert regarding waterlogging and traffic jams.

Red alert of heavy rain in hilly states

Tourists and local people going to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand need to take special precautions. IMD has issued an alert of ‘very heavy rain’ in Himachal on 6-7 July and in Uttarakhand today i.e. 5 July. During this period, there is a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 60 km per hour and landslides. The weather may remain bad in Jammu and Kashmir till July 10, due to which a huge drop in temperature will be recorded.

Warning of extremely heavy rain in Central India and Odisha

Continuous rains will continue in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha till July 10. A warning of ‘extremely heavy rain’ has been issued in some areas of Western Madhya Pradesh, while there will be heavy rain in East Madhya Pradesh between July 5 and 8. An alert has also been issued for Odisha, where coastal areas may receive very heavy rains. Apart from this, there is a danger of intense lightning in Jharkhand, due to which people have been instructed not to go out in the open.

Effect of monsoon on Gujarat and north-eastern states

Extremely heavy rains are expected in Saurashtra and Kutch region of Gujarat till July 7. In view of the rough sea, fishermen have been advised to stay away from coastal areas. At the same time, rains will continue in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura of Northeast India till July 10, while in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, the intensity of rain is expected to increase significantly from July 7.
